I admit it. I'm a hopeless romantic. |
|
I love an adventurous journey as much as a happy ending.
I've been an avid reader of fiction since Mom bought me a Nancy Drew mystery,
and a lover of romantic fiction since I raided her private book case.
I've spent years writing about true crimes (and life
in general) for news broadcasts as an award-winning television journalist.
I now make my living as a senior technical editor for an international
Boston-based company. But like many writers, I too have dreams of working
for myself as a successful author. So, every spare moment is spent writing,
plotting, and researching my next love story.
I'm a member of the Romance Writers of America, FTHRW,
and DARN-IT. Former affiliations include: Hearts Through History Romance
Writers, Women In Communications, Inc.
My first manuscript—a time travel western—finaled
in the 2004 Romance through the Ages contest. Since then, I've continued
to include paranormal twists in my romantic tales. And when the idea of
writing a romantic suspense with a shapeshifting, paranormal element came
to mind, I jumped to my keyboard... and the Lycan Packs
were born. Originally three books are planned for
the Lycan Packs series—one for each of the Stone brothers—but
who knows what tomorrow will bring. Although I do know that because of
my love of the Lone Star state, I intend to revisit the old west again.
You can visit my Lycans at their own site:
http://lycanpacks.com
by following the paw prints at the bottom of any page on this site.
When I'm not writing, I enjoy real life with my former
Navy man, our very active son, and a salt & pepper-colored schnauzer,
named Buster, who lives to play fetch.

When will the next Lycan story be out? What's
it called? |
 |
Those are two of the most common questions I
receive. The second one is easy to answer: Book #2 will be titled
Lycan Truth. There's a little blurb about it on this site...on
the Stories page. And you can learn about the chracters involved
by visiting their world at LycanPacks.com
The first one is a bit harder to answer, namely
because I'm still writing the book. The best way I can suggest for
you to stay informed on when my books will be coming out is to join
my free Yahoo group, called Lycan Packs. I only post very important
announcements to it, so you won't wind up with a lot of junk email.
(I personally hate SPAM! You won't catch me doing the same to others.)
The link the group is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lycanpacks/

Where can I get your books? |
 |
Excerpts are available on this site for those
stories that are published.
My published novels are available
for purchase as downloadable e-books at Cobblestone
Press. Some are available through other online, mass-market
distributors, such as Fictionwise, Readerwise, and Mobipocket.
Unfortunately, I don't have anything in print...YET!
But I'm actively marketing my work and honing my writing skills,
so hopefully one day I can change the answer to this question by
pointing you to my "print-published" works on a bookstore
shelf near you. Besides, my Dad asked for my first book in print,
and that's a promise I intend to keep. |

Where do you get your ideas? |
 |
I think this is one of the most common questions
asked of writers, whether they're new to the trade or a NY Times
Bestseller. For me, I can only quote a fellow aspiring romance author,
my critique partner and friend, Tanner Holmes: She says my "brain
is always busy". I often brainstorm with members of DARN-IT,
and helping them over their plot or characterization hurdles often
helps me deal with my own.
Sometimes I start with a character. Other times
I've had an idea for a plot. For my first full-manuscript, I had
the ending and the heroine... or so I thought. After the first scene
though, her best friend actually became the heroine of the story
and she was demoted to a secondary (although still vital) character.
With me, it's different everytime... and a single comment from a
friend in passing could stir a 400 page story! |

What is DARN-IT? |
 |
DARN-IT stands for Dedicated Aspiring Romance Novelists
- In Training. We're a small group of writers with similar interests
and dreams. We love romantic fiction and strive for publication. Together
we form a support group for when...Darn it!... that rejection letter
comes in the mail. And we're the biggest cheering squad for each other
when one of us gets "the call". You can check out all the
DARN-IT writers at our site: DARNITromance.com. |

Who inspired you? |
 |
I give credit to several people. My parents,
first, for introducing me to the world of fiction that resulted
in my own love of reading... and for showing me what true love is
all about.
To my fellow aspiring authors in DARN
IT who are there to cheer the successes and support me through
the rejections. I can't express the value of having great friends,
critique partners & writing buddies. Thanks Ladies!
To those who've shared the dream & come before
me... my favorite authors. To list them all would really be too
long to put here... but here are a few:
- Anne Rice - For giving me a
story I could sink my teeth into ... she got me reading again.
- Johanna Lindsey - She's one
of the first romance authors I read. I've kept her books and revisit
her characters often. Love the Mallory family!
- Julia Quinn - Her wit is priceless.
Thanks for showing me the importance of laughter in love stories.
- Tom Clancy - Yep, believe it
or not... No, his love scenes (if there are any at all) leave
a lot to be desired, but he can spin a suspenseful plot better
than anyone I've read.
- Suzanne Brockman - Her SEAL
series, each with its own dual love stories now and then (WWII)
are a work of art. Military thrillers and Romance can ... and
do mix. (Besides, didn't I say I married a Navy man?)
- Leigh Greenwood - I love his
western romances!
- Sherilyn Kenyon & Christine Feehan
- For providing that taste of the paranormal in unique and exciting
ways.

What made you want to do this? |
 |
Hmmm. That's hard to say. I've just always been
a writer. I remember at twelve, I became the youngest intern at an
ABC TV station because I was interested in journalism. I later reported
for that station. own worlds, people, and events. I enjoy mixing both,
which is what gave me theBut writing factual accounts of real life
is very different from creating your idea for my first story—a
time travel romance set in revolutionary Texas. |
